Thank you for wanting to find out more about me and my work!
I'm Joanne Elliott, a 30 year old Berlin based architect and photographer. My german-australian heritage made me grow up with and understanding of belonging everywhere and nowhere and ultimately lead to a life determined by lot's of travel and a constant urge to explore far away places. This identity is reflected in many of my photographs communicating a subtle sense of nostalgia and escapism which is further emphasized by the raw aesthetic achieved by using mostly small and medium format film.
After graduating architecture school in 2017 I first picked up an analogue camera thanks to my (now) husband, who I've met on one of my many travels and since that day hardly left the house without it hanging over my shoulder, ready to shoot. Our bond over film photography and capturing inspiring moments during our trip through Central and South America has shaped the way I look through my lense today significantly while I keep educating myself by studying the work of other people in the field.
My photography mainly focuses on landscapes and their transformation processes in the realm of the built and unbuilt environment. But I enjoy documenting lifestyle and travel related stories just as much, always looking for ways to capture the essence of a moment, person or landscape.
